摘要

Purpose of Review

Many breast cancer survivors experience persistent cancer- and treatment-related sequelae that must be addressed in survivorship care. Lifestyle medicine is a medical discipline focused on using evidence-based behavioral interventions to prevent and treat chronic disease. The purpose of this review is to demonstrate that integration of lifestyle medicine tools into oncology is important for comprehensive survivorship care.

Recent Findings

The six pillars of lifestyle medicine include: nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, avoidance of harmful substances, and social connection. Research studies suggest that integrating lifestyle-based strategies into breast oncology care may improve overall health, well-being, and outcomes.

Summary

Despite guidelines from national cancer organizations, there are barriers for implementation of lifestyle medicine in breast oncology clinics. Oncology programs can extend lifestyle medicine support beyond clinic visits by engaging the multidisciplinary team, adopting delivery models that extend reach, and using digital technologies. Further work is needed to develop the payment infrastructure to ensure that lifestyle medicine tools are incorporated into survivorship care.
