Variational approximations for optical fiber: a tutorial review
摘要
Variational approximation is one of the suitable analytical approximations for calculating the transmission parameters of optical fibers. This work presents a discussion of the different single-parameter, two-parameter and three-parameter variational approximations reported in the literature, for calculating the propagation parameters, such as, the bend loss, the normalized dispersion parameter, the normalized group delay, and the propagation constant of optical fiber. A comparative study of all these approximations is presented for calculating the different propagation parameters of single-mode and few-mode optical fibers.
