Dual hexagonal ring resonator biosensor for simultaneous detection of malaria and bacterial biomarkers on SOI platform
摘要
This work presents a dual hexagonal ring-resonator photonic biosensor for detecting malaria and bacterial biomarkers on the same SOI platform. The sensor consists of a single input waveguide, two hexagonal resonators, and two output waveguides, which detect wavelength shifts due to changes in the effective refractive index. An extensive optimization is performed to identify the sensor structural parameters, such as the sensing air hole radius, introducing new perturbations in the waveguide, and removing sensitive holes around the resonator to enhance the quality factor of the sensor. Furthermore, malarial and bacterial biomarkers were integrated into both resonators and tested. The sensor achieves an ultra-high quality factor of up to 18,392, with a higher transmission of 96%, and resonates in the Conventional and Long Wavelength bands. The sensor attains the minimum detection limit of 0.03 RIU and features a compact footprint of 100 μm². The dual resonator biosensor provides a high-performance platform for detecting two analytes.
