<p>We report for the first time​ a pure-three-level Nd: LiYF<sub>4</sub> (Nd: LLF) laser at 862&#xa0;nm on the <sup>4</sup>F<sub>3/2</sub>→<sup>4</sup>I<sub>9/2</sub> transition. By employing a 792&#xa0;nm diode laser for pumping, a continuous-wave (CW) pure-three-level lasing at 862&#xa0;nm was experimentally achieved. At an absorbed pump power of 18.2&#xa0;W, a maximum output power of 3.86&#xa0;W at 862&#xa0;nm in π-polarization was obtained. The slope efficiency and the optical-to-optical efficiency with respect to the absorbed pump power are 25.7% and 21.2%, respectively. Moreover, a frequency-doubling CW blue laser was also realized with a maximum output power of 820 mW at 431&#xa0;nm. The wavelength of 862&#xa0;nm has excellent biological tissue penetration and specific material absorption characteristics, and has irreplaceable value in the fields of precision therapy, metal micro-processing, advanced sensing and cutting-edge scientific research.</p>

Diode-pumped pure-three-level Nd: LiLuF4 laser at 862 nm on the 4F3/24I9/2 transition
