摘要

As industries transition to next-generation networks the integration of Visible Light Communication (VLC) with 5G and Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) systems presents a powerful opportunity to advance industrial automation, communication and operational efficiency. This paper investigates the integration of VLC with 5G highlighting its potential to complement traditional Radio Frequency (RF) communication by delivering high-speed and interference-free data exchange. It examines VLC’s role in facilitating IIoT in smart factories where it can support real-time communication so as to optimize energy consumption through Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) lighting infrastructure and strengthen security. The work addresses challenges such as VLC’s dependence on Line-of-Sight (LoS) and susceptibility to ambient light interference while proposing possible solutions and directions for future research. By leveraging the potential of VLC within 5G and IIoT ecosystems industries can achieve new levels of connectivity, reliability and scalability driving the evolution of next-generation industrial systems.
