Re-Description of Species Hamodes propitia Guérin-Méneville (Lepidoptera: Erebidae: Erebinae) From India
摘要
Hamodes propitia (Guérin-Méneville, 1831), a moth of the subfamily Erebinae (Erebidae), is reported here with an extended distribution in the north-western Himalayas, particularly Himachal Pradesh, India. Specimens were collected between 651–1800 m from Hamirpur and Kangra districts during 2022–2023, where the species was moderately prevalent. The study re-describes the species with detailed male and female genitalia supported by photographs and provides molecular characterization using mitochondrial COI gene sequences. Significant genitalia variation was observed between H. propitia and related species, underscoring the value of integrating morphological and molecular data for accurate taxonomy. These findings enhance understanding of the species’ distribution and divergence within the genus Hamodes.
