<p>Rainbow trout (<i>Oncorhynchus mykiss</i>) and brown trout (<i>Salmo trutta fario</i>) are salmonid species that have been introduced for sport and recreational activities worldwide. In India, they were introduced in the late 19th century and were successfully established in the early 20th century by the Englishmen. However, till now, no studies have analyzed the morphomeristic characteristics of these stocks. Therefore, this study aimed to analyze the morphomeristic characters of rainbow trout from North India and South India and brown trout from North India. Morphomeristic results revealed clear interstock distance between the trout samples obtained from North India and South India based on their external body features. However, these external differentiations could not be considered conclusive evidence for genetic diversity. The results obtained from this study can have strong implications for sustainable management and development towards the conservation of the salmonid species in India.</p>
