摘要

Nine species of primnoid octocorals are reported from seamounts off the Pacific coast of Costa Rica; eight represent new records for the country. Specimens were primarily collected during five oceanographic expeditions in 2017–2019 and 2023 using R/V Atlantis (HOV Alvin), R/V Falkor, and R/V Falkor (too) (ROV SuBastian) at depths of 519–3031 m, and from additional fish-trawl donations. All specimens were photographed in situ, and all were identified to species level except for Calyptrophora specimens within the C. bayeri complex. Phylogenetic analyses based on ultraconserved elements and exon loci uncovered a distinct cryptic lineage within this complex. These results expand knowledge of deep-sea octocoral diversity in Costa Rican waters.
