<p>The Bouhanifia watershed located in the northwest of Algeria is characterized by a semi-arid bioclimate and subject to considerable erosive dynamics, which gradually and certainly leads to the soils weakening and to the silting of the dam at the outlet. This study aims to predict the erosion severity by using the Erosion Potential Model (EPM) as well as its modified version mEPM to predict the rate of water erosion. The estimated average soil losses according to both models are 20.42 and 7.62 (t/ha/year) respectively. The results show a good correlation with previous studies done in the same region with other models. The GIS analysis of the results reveals the three main factors that control water erosion in the Bouhanifia basin, namely; the slope, vegetation cover and the rainfall. The Sediment Delivery Ratio of the catchment is about 0.6 and the net erosion rate of the main stream is 12.2 (t/ha/year).</p>
