De verpleegkundige als gezondheidsbevorderaar in de wijk: ervaringen en kansen
摘要
In the transition of healthcare, nurses can play a vital role as community health promoters. However, the implementation of this role is hindered by government policies, work-related factors, and needs for knowledge and practical skills. We explored how pioneering nurses shape community-based health promotion, aiming to gain deeper insight into their experiences and opportunities for improvement. We conducted qualitative exploratory research with nurses active in community health promotion, through 15 interviews and four reflection sessions, involving a total of 24 unique respondents. We subsequently performed reflexive thematic analyses. Nurses in this study were highly motivated to practice community health promotion. They begin by mapping the community and continuously invest in a professional network that expands across domains. This collaboration results in various health-promoting activities. Nurses employ numerous competencies, with professional leadership being the most important. This involves conveying their vision on health (promotion), gaining support for this role, and being visibly and connectively present in the community. The wide variety of nursing activities seems to create a diffuse image of their contribution. A quality instrument may provide clarity for both nurses themselves and networkpartners. Additionally, the systematic approach to community health promotion by nurses may be improved through an accessible, coherent provision of supporting methodologies. Role models and learning networks in community health promotion can strengthen professional leadership and motivation, enabling nurses to better position themselves as health promoters in the community.
