<p>This article argues that the much-scolded German lack of strategic culture may be resolved by the concept known as the Machiavellian revolution: a&#xa0;reconfiguration—long overdue—is conceptualized against the backdrop of vital external threats, after four core parameters underpinning the official “moderation” <i>(Besonnenheit)</i> have been unpacked and their weaknesses exposed. Building on that, three central elements of the newly emerging strategic culture can now shape future strategy-making.</p>
