Enhancing Geotourism Potential: Assessing and Presenting a Tourism Development Strategy for Takht-e Soleiman Region, West Azerbaijan Province – Iran
摘要
The Takt-e Soleyman region, a historically and archaeologically significant area in northwestern Iran, possesses considerable potential for the development of geotourism due to its historical and cultural attractions, diverse geomorphological features, rare geological phenomena, and other natural attractions. In this study, ten geosites were selected based on field surveys and their appeal for geotourism development, and they were evaluated using the Modified geosite Assessment Model (M-GAM), incorporating adjustments to several sub-indicators. The objectives of this paper include introducing the geosites, assessing their potential for geotourism development, identifying the most suitable geosites for future development, and examining the influence of visitor feedback on the evaluation of geosites in the Takt-e Soleyman region. The results indicated that while all geosites scored highly in terms of their main values, their success in attracting tourists has been limited due to underdeveloped public infrastructure—specifically, deficiencies in functional and touristic values—which has hindered their ability to capitalize on the region’s geotourism potential. Furthermore, the findings revealed that the conservation value of the geosites received greater attention from visitors in the Takt-e Soleyman region compared to other values in the assessment model. Based on the evaluation of main values and additional values, the geosites with the highest potential for tourism development were the Takt-e Soleyman Spring (GS1), Zendan-e Soleyman (GS2), and Ejdeha Sangi (GS3).
