Unlocking the Casino of Tomorrow: Analyzing Human–Robot Interaction, Trust, Psychological, and Utilitarian Factors

This paper proposes and tests a novel model of human–robot interaction and the service robots’ acceptance. We used Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to analyze the impact of human–robot interaction (anthropomorphism, perceived intelligence, and perceived social interactivity), psychological (wow effect, emotional presence, and psychological characteristics), utilitarian (perceived ease of use, and perceived usefulness) factors and trust on service robot adoption among 446 participants. Our findings show that two main factors influence patron’s intention to use service robots: the “wow effect” and ease of use. We also show that human–robot interaction and psychological factors positively influence a patron’s perceived ease of use of a robot. Further, psychological factors played a role in influencing patron’s trust in the service robot. Finally, for those who preferred interacting with a human, the impact of human–robot interaction factors on ease of use was canceled.
