Determining Mishmi Hills Farmers Participation in Enhancing Sugarcane Production for Sustainable Livelihood Using PLS-Structural Equation Modeling

The study looks at how farmers in the Mishmi Hills of Arunachal Pradesh, India, are prepared to take advantages of opportunities in sugarcane farming. The study focusses on the resource availability, the suitability for production, socioeconomic conditions, and their willingness to engage in crop production development through value-added processes. The research involved a sample of 300 respondents, selected randomly and data were collected on different factors that could enhance advance crop production. To assess the respondents’ opinions and develop a practical model for effective policy implementation, the study employed partial-least square structural equation modeling. This approach facilitated the evaluation of associations among the selected indicators for each construct, informed by existing literatures in international database such as, Google Scholar and Scopus. The study findings confirmed positive and significant associations between the constructs. Underscoring the potential for increasing crop production and provide new opportunities for agri-entrepreneurship among farmers, (sugar, jaggery, filter mug for cane field production, etc.), thereby enhancing farm income through value addition. The model developed from this study provides important guidance for the policymakers and stakeholders in Mishmi Hills, aiming to improve crop production, agri-business and helping to make farming more sustainable, dynamic, and profitable.
