Product innovation opportunity identification using improved BERTopic with the perspectives of customer requirements and technology development
摘要
Accurately identifying and evaluating product innovation opportunities is essential for enterprises to improve product quality, enhance customer satisfaction, and strengthen their competitive advantage. However, existing studies often emphasize customer requirements while neglecting technological trends, resulting in incomplete and biased insights into innovation opportunities. To address this limitation, we propose a dual-perspective approach that integrates customer requirements and technological developments to uncover product innovation opportunities. Firstly, we extract product features using an improved BERTopic model that effectively mitigates the issue of topic indistinguishability. Secondly, we construct an innovation index to assess the innovation potential of product features in terms of customer attention, customer satisfaction, and technological advancement. Thirdly, we identify product innovation opportunities with varying innovation values and propose corresponding strategic recommendations. Finally, we validate the effectiveness of the proposed method through a case study on electric vehicles. The results demonstrate that our dual-perspective approach provides valuable and actionable insights to support enterprise innovation decision-making.
