<p>Scar formation can sometimes lead to undesirable aesthetic as well as functional results in the healing process. Improvement of these scars can be addressed conservatively, though depending on the type of scar, further corrective surgery can lead to the desired optimisation. However, before any treatment is undertaken, it is important to define a&#xa0;realistic goal as to what kind of improvement leads to the best results, as a&#xa0;complete elimination of a&#xa0;scar is not possible. A&#xa0;common therapeutic goal of surgeons and patients is therefore essential.</p>
