摘要

Scientific advancements often take a long time to reach the healthcare system, if at all. This “implementation gap” affects most areas of medicine. It is, however, particularly pronounced in the field of primary prevention of cancer and other noncommunicable diseases, as the challenges faced in these areas are particularly complex. Primary prevention therefore involves both behavioral prevention, i.e., changing unhealthy lifestyles (e.g., addictive behavior) and structural prevention, i.e., creating environments that promote health. Implementation research is essential to meet these challenges and realize the enormous potential of cancer prevention. This article specifies this research need and outlines the expertise required to address it.
