<p>Parental cancer brings many challenges for affected families. Children and adolescents who experience parental cancer require information and support in a&#xa0;phase of deep uncertainty. The situation can have an impact on the psychological state of the children and adolescents, influence their social integration and possibly have consequences for school. Maintaining normality, open communication within the family, and opportunities to talk about the situation and express feelings and needs in a&#xa0;protected environment are important pillars in coping with the illness. Oncology professionals can encourage and support parents in informing their children in an age-appropriate manner and can refer families to support services as needed. In the case of a&#xa0;palliative situation and the loss of a&#xa0;parent, special support may be necessary.</p>
