<p>The King pigeon, a fancy pigeon breed, is highly regarded among breeders in Poland, achieving notable success in exhibitions across Europe. While scientific literature predominantly emphasizes the utilitarian aspects of King pigeons, less attention has been given to their role as domesticated animals. This study, employing a qualitative approach, lays the theoretical groundwork for exploring the sociological aspects of interspecies interactions between breeders and their fancy pigeons, specifically King pigeons. Conducted through in-depth, semi-structured interviews with 11 Polish breeders affiliated with King Club PL, the research reveals that specific structural characteristics and the demeanor of King pigeons influence breeders’ decisions to work with this breed, thereby initiating interspecies relationships. The findings illustrate how breeders and their King pigeons cultivate and strengthen mutual bonds through daily interactions and highlight the breed’s unique relationship with other animals. Breeders tend to view their King pigeons through an anthropomorphic lens, while the pigeons, for their part, tolerate other animals as long as their personal space is respected.</p>
