Not Everything Hairy is a Hairy Cell - Evading the TRAP, a Case Series of Seven Cases with Narrative Review of Literature
摘要
Hairy cell leukaemia (HCL) is a disease charcterised by distinctive clinical findings, as well as a unique morphology and immunophenotype. These features help in diagnosis in nearly all situations. In certain cases, morphological features of HCL, such as villous cytoplasmic projections or characteristic tissue-specific infiltrative patterns, may be seen in other malignancies. A methodical and thorough approach, evaluating the clinical history, examination findings, cytology, histology, architectural and immunophenotypic features will aid in rendering the correct diagnosis. This is extremely important as therapy differs, and so do the outcomes. We here in present a case series of seven cases which presented with hairy projections thereby initially raising the suspicion of a HCL however, after detailed investigations turned out to be mimickers.
