Bilirubin Crystals in Peripheral Blood: A Rare Hematological Observation
摘要
Bilirubin crystals in peripheral blood are rare golden yellow refractile substance found in the cytoplasm of neutrophils, often associated with severe neonatal jaundice and sepsis. They are an in vitro phenomenon as they are formed only in samples collected in EDTA due to decreased solubility of bilirubin crystals leading to their crystallization. We herein report a case of 3 day old newborn showing presence of bilirubin crystals in both nutrophils and monocytes.
