<p>Multipiece osteotomies of the maxilla offer an option for treating transverse discrepancies, an open bite, a&#xa0;Bolton discrepancy, unfavorable anterior tooth inclination, or asymmetries of the dental arch. The combined orthodontic and orthognathic surgical treatment can be shortened by employing this technique and lead to a&#xa0;skeletally stable result. The risk of additional complications compared to operations with an unsegmented maxilla is calculable provided the correct indication, precise preoperative preparation, and intraoperative safety measures are adhered to. Multipiece osteotomies of the maxilla can therefore be regarded as a&#xa0;useful technique for expanding the therapeutic spectrum in orthognathic surgery.</p>
