<p>Following the positive press release regarding the results of the KEYNOTE-689 study investigating pembrolizumab (PD1 blockade) as both a&#xa0;neoadjuvant treatment and adjuvant maintenance therapy in combination with guideline-conform treatment of locally advanced oral cancer, a&#xa0;practice-changing alteration to the treatment approach of oral squamous cell carcinoma is expected. Every oncologically active head and neck surgeon is now obliged to study these results and the treatment recommendations derived therefrom and to check the possibility of integrating them into their treatment concept.</p>
