摘要

Ultrasound (US) is a versatile imaging method that is used worldwide as an initial diagnostic tool in many clinical settings. Medical US has unique advantages, such as a high temporal resolution and low costs, combined with avoidance of radiation exposure. The continuous advancements in US technologies as well as their integration into established digital healthcare systems contribute to the wide application of US. However, diagnostic challenges arise due to the fundamental characteristics of US imaging, particularly the manual operation and considerable dependence on user experience. Artificial intelligence (AI)-based radiomics, including US diagnostics, in medical imaging has received considerable research attention in recent years. Owing to advancements in the field of AI, it is now possible to identify complex scanning patterns and perform precise quantitative and qualitative analyses of imaging data. Accordingly, the use of AI-assisted ultrasound has the potential to significantly improve the accuracy and reproducibility of diagnostic findings in clinical routine. In recent years, KI-assisted US examination has enjoyed considerable success in various fields. Areas of application include the head and neck, heart and thorax, gynecologic breast examination and obstetrics, abdominal US, and the assessment of musculoskeletal structures. This article is primarily concerned with application in the head and neck region.
