Abstract <p>Invasive candidiasis in pediatrics mainly affects neonates and immunocompromised children.</p> Purpose of the Review <p>The objective of this review is mainly focused on obtaining updated information on the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of invasive candidiasis in pediatrics.</p> Findings <p>Regarding epidemiology, an increase in infections caused by <i>non-albicans Candida</i> species was identified. For diagnosis, culture continues to be the reference standard, however, new diagnostic methods have been introduced.</p> Summary <p>Currently, new technologies have been developed such as the (1 → 3)-β-D-glucan detection assay, T2 candida system and molecular techiniques, facilitating and reducing diagnosis time. Microbiological eradication is a priority in the treatment for which the use of antifungal drugs is the first option.</p> <p>This review provides the guideline for making a timely diagnosis and appropriate empirical treatment that in the future will reduce associated complications and mortality.</p>

Abstract

Invasive candidiasis in pediatrics mainly affects neonates and immunocompromised children.

Purpose of the Review

The objective of this review is mainly focused on obtaining updated information on the epidemiology, diagnosis and treatment of invasive candidiasis in pediatrics.

Findings
