A Case of Actinomycosis of the Pancreas Mimicking Chronic Groove Pancreatitis
摘要
Actinomyces israelii is a filamentous, gram-positive anaerobic bacterium that is commonly found in the upper gastrointestinal tract, colon, and female genital tract. They can acquire pathogenicity after a breach in mucosal integrity in unusual circumstances. While abdominal infection itself is rare, pancreatic actinomycosis is very rare with only 20 cases being reported in world literature. We report a case of actinomycosis of the pancreatic head mimicking chronic grove pancreatitis with a stone in the main pancreatic duct in a 32-year Indian lady after a prior hepatobiliary and upper gastrointestinal surgery. The recurrent attacks necessitated a Pancreatoduodenectomy. The histology confirmed Actinomycosis.
