A Case Series Analysis of 1200 Breast Cancer Patients with 12 Years Follow-Up from a Single Hospital in Iran

Breast cancer affects women globally, with a particularly high rate among Iranian women, necessitating improved detection programs and prevention strategies. This study examined breast cancer rates in Iran to understand the biological factors influencing the disease and enhance prevention efforts. This study analyzed breast cancer patients, collecting demographic and clinical data, including age, ethnicity, tumor size, histological grade, lymph node status, and hormone receptor status. The primary outcome assessed was survival, utilizing statistical methods such as Kaplan–Meier and chi-square tests to evaluate treatment efficacy and outcome disparities. The study included 1.207 Iranian breast cancer patients, with an average age of 56 years. Our result indicated low mortality rate, suggesting effective treatment. The average tumor size was 1.73 cm, with 68.4% of tumors measuring ≤ 2 cm, which indicated early-stage cancer. Most patients had grade 2 tumors, while 23.8% had unknown grades. The average number of positive lymph nodes was 0.88 and 77% showed no involvement, which correlated with better survival outcomes. Additionally, about 44% of patients had positive estrogen receptors, linked to improved treatment responses. The Kaplan–Meier method demonstrated a high censorship rate which significantly affected survival estimated, with a mean survival time of approximately 122.7 days. A strong association was noted between lymph node involvement and patient outcomes. This study highlighted the link between clinical and demographic factors and breast cancer survival rates. It emphasized early detection, tumor size, and hormone receptor status as key prognostic indicators for improved outcomes.
