Evaluation of Cosmetic and Pathological Outcomes of Nasal BCC Resection and Supraclavicular Full-Thickness Graft Reconstruction
摘要
Basal cell carcinoma is the most common cancer in the White population, and different techniques are used for its surgical management. This study aimed to evaluate the cosmetic and pathological results of nasal BCC resection and reconstruction with a full-thickness graft of the supraclavicular area. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study conducted on patients admitted to the Shohadaye Ashayer Hospital in Khorramabad, Iran, from 2015 to 2020 for BCC resection with 6- to 8-mm margins and reconstruction with a full-thickness graft of the supraclavicular area. Demographic data and the cosmetic and pathological results of the surgery were registered into a researcher-made checklist. The collected data were analyzed by the SPSS software version 22 at a 5% significance level. In this study, 92 patients were included. The mean age of patients was 66.4 years, and 49 subjects (53.3%) were male. Individuals younger than 40 made up only 1% of the subjects. No complications occurred in any of the patients. Recurrence was seen in only 1 of 92 patients, but Mohs micrographic surgery was needed in none of them. In only two cases (2.2%), tumor cells were observed in the deep and upper margins of the resected samples. This study showed the benefits of BCC resection with 6- to 8-mm margins and reconstruction with a full-thickness graft of the supraclavicular area as a safe and effective technique.
