Long-Term 10 Years Results of Endovenous Laser Ablation for Chronic Venous Disease: Clinical and Digital Photo Plethysmography Evaluation

Vein ablation for the treatment of chronic venous disease also improves venous hemodynamics in the lower extremity. However, venous hemodynamic studies have generally been ignored. In this study, we investigated the long-term effectiveness and safety of endovenous laser ablation using a 1470 nm diode laser for chronic venous disease, as well as how it affects venous hemodynamics in the lower extremity. A total of 152 patients with chronic venous disease who underwent endovenous laser ablation procedure between January 2013 and August 2013 were included in this case series analysis. Clinical assessments, objective hemodynamic venous function tests made by the digital photo plethysmography, and duplex ultrasonography measurements were conducted before and after the procedure over ten years. Endovenous laser ablation was successfully performed in all patients, with an average procedure time of 28 min. No major complications occurred. After 10 years, vein closure rates remained high (over 90%), and the patients reported significant symptom improvement and better quality of life. Additionally, vein function tests indicated improved venous hemodynamics. This study confirms that endovenous laser ablation with a 1470 nm diode laser is a safe and effective long-term therapeutic modality for chronic venous disease. It provides sustained vein closure, symptom relief, enhanced quality of life, and improved venous hemodynamics.
