<p>This study aimed to investigate the anti-senescence effect of the ethanol extract derived from the pulp of the ‘Jeramon’ (JPEE) on human keratinocytes (HaCaT) that were induced by ultraviolet B (UVB) light. JPEE exhibited a scavenging effect against superoxide anions, hydroxyl radicals, and UVB-induced reactive oxygen species. JPEE reduced the UVB-induced [Ca<sup>2+</sup>]<sub>i</sub> increase, senescence-associated β-galactosidase activity, G<sub>0</sub>/G<sub>1</sub> arrest, and the expression of matrix metalloproteinases. Furthermore, JPEE reduced the phosphorylated expression of the UVB-induced signaling protein stress-activated protein kinase/Jun-amino-terminal kinase (SAPK/JNK) and its upstream factor SAPK/JNK kinase, as well as that of its downstream factors c-Fos and c-Jun. The construction of the virtual skin network revealed that JPEE affected linolenic acid metabolism but not retinol metabolism, suggesting its anti-aging effects are associated with linolenic acid metabolism. This study proved that JPEE had a suppressive effect on cellular senescence caused by UVB; therefore, JPEE can be applied as a natural material for suppressing photo-aging and ameliorating skin aging.</p>
