Novel Apparatus for Angle of Repose Measurement: A Tool for Powder Flowability Assessment

In pharmaceutical industries that handle powders, ensuring smooth powder flow is essential for efficient manufacturing and maintaining high product quality. Evaluating powder flowability is a critical step in process control. The angle of repose serves as a key indicator for evaluating the flow characteristics of powdered materials. However, traditional approaches for evaluating the angle of repose involve multiple instruments and manual calculations, making the process time-consuming and prone to inconsistencies. This study aims to develop a digital sensor-based device integrated with image processing software to overcome the limitations of conventional manual and semi-automated methods.
MethodThe proposed device automates the calculation of the angle of repose by combining controlled powder dispensing with digital imaging and software-based analysis. The system is designed to be compact, portable, and operable in remote or resource-limited environments.
