摘要

The aim of this study is to explore the causes of the gender gap in communications and telecommunications spending. The data from three household income and consumption surveys in Chad in 2018 were used. The Blinder-Oaxaca decomposition model was applied. The results of the analysis of this study show that the difference between men’s and women’s spending on communications and telecommunications is positive in favor of men. Individual income has a significant and positive effect on individual spending on communications and telecommunications, as well as on the difference in spending on communications and telecommunications between men and women. The Chadian government should coordinate its efforts to improve women’s incomes to reduce the difference in spending on communication and telecommunication between the two groups of men and women and to encourage employment and education policies for women. Low communication and telecom prices could reduce spending by communication and telecom users, and the gap between men’s and women’s average expenditures.
