<p>Potato (<i>Solanum tuberosum L.)</i> is a key agricultural food and income-generating crop that also serves as a viable and economically attractive alternative to poppy cultivation in Afghanistan, particularly in Nangarhar Province. Even with high production levels, producers encounter several marketing challenges, including a lack of storage facilities, limited market awareness, and high transportation costs. This study examines the factors that influence the potatoes marketed surplus. The primary data were collected from a random sample of 180 farmers within the total population of potato producers in the districts of Batikot, Chaprahar, and Rodat in Nangarhar province. To ensure that the results are representative, log-linear OLS and quantile regression models were applied to obtain comprehensive empirical estimates. The results indicate that each household produces an average of 7,553&#xa0;kg of potatoes per season. A portion is kept for domestic consumption and other needs, while approximately 82% is sold in the market. The log-linear model indicates that cultivated land and access to informal credit significantly increase the marketed surplus, while factors like family size and distance to roads and markets negatively impact it. The coefficient on the model mean elasticity indicates that a 1% increase in land area leads to a 0.98% increase in marketed surplus. The Quantile regression results also confirm these effects for various levels of potato farmers. Based on the results, to enhance market participation and farmer income, the study recommends strengthening storage infrastructure, improving market information systems, reducing transportation costs, and expanding access to interest-free credit.</p>
