<p>The genus <i>Besleria</i> encompasses 165 to 200 species, predominantly found in the rainforest understory of South and Central America. Despite its significance in biodiversity, <i>Besleria</i> is one of the largest and least explored genera in Gesneriaceae. This study describes a new species, <Emphasis Type="BoldItalic">Besleria mucosa</Emphasis>, discovered in the Natural Reserves Cerro El Inglés and Galápagos in the Serranía de los Paraguas, Cordillera Occidental of the Colombian Andes. This new species is similar to <i>B. mirifica</i> but can be differentiated by the following characters: presence of mucilage on apical buds, young leaves, and the base of inflorescences, entire leaf blade margin with glabrous indumentum on abaxial side, and glabrous calyx lobes. To our knowledge, this is the first report of a <i>Besleria</i> species with mucilage secretion. The description is accompanied by a line drawing, a photographic plate of the new species in its natural habit, and a map showing its geographic distribution.</p>
