Based on a single herbarium collection housed at COL, Noterophila oblita (Melastomataceae, tribe Marcetieae) is here described and illustrated. The species was collected in the early 1950s in the Colombian Amazon and appears to have never been recollected since. It is likely restricted to savannas along the Inírida River, currently within the department of Guainía. Due to the limited available information, the new species is recommended to be categorized as Data Deficient. Morphologically, Noterophila oblita is similar to N. crassipes and N. genliseoides, two widely distributed Neotropical species that do not occur in sympatry with each other or with the new species. An updated identification key for the genus is also provided, along with photographs of live specimens of N. crassipes and N. genliseoides illustrating the variation in floral merosity and corolla color within Noterophila.
