Dichapetalum pseudoedule (Dichapetalaceae), a new species from the sacred Kaya forests of coastal Kenya

Dichapetalum pseudoedule, a novel species collected from Kaya Jibana and Kambe within the coastal forests of Kenya, is described. Morphological analysis reveals that it exhibits closest affinities to D. edule. However, it is distinct from D. edule in several ways: its stipules always simple and shorter, it has more lateral veins, a longer peduncle, reflexed petals that split to midway and its fruits are more sparsely pubescent. This study provides a detailed description, complemented by illustrations and photographs and a comparison with the closely, morphologically related species, D. edule. A key to the Dichapetalum species in tropical East Africa is also provided.
