Based on our examination of herbarium specimens (including type material) and living plants in the wild, we demonstrate that Elsholtzia fruticosa var. glabrifolia C.Y.Wu & S.C.Huang is a synonym of E. litangensis C.X.Pu & W.Y.Chen, and the taxon deserves recognition at the specific rank.
