<p>This study evaluates the agricultural land suitability of the Guder River Basin, Ethiopia, employing Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to enhance land use planning and agricultural productivity. The assessment focuses on key determinants, including slope gradient, elevation, soil type, soil water content, and proximity to rivers, roads, and towns. Several thematic maps were created, and each map class was assigned weights based on agricultural suitability. Using the “Weighted Overlay Analysis” tool in ArcGIS 10.3.1, these weighted themes were combined to generate a comprehensive suitability map. Results indicate that 2474.08 Km<sup>2</sup> (36.42%) of the study area is categorized as “Highly suitable” for agriculture. Areas classified as “Moderately suitable,” “Marginally suitable,” and “Unsuitable” are 1895.25 Km<sup>2</sup>, 1423.53 Km<sup>2</sup>, and 1001.40 Km<sup>2</sup>, respectively. The “Highly suitable” category is primarily characterized by gentle slopes (0°–7°), lower elevations (865–1500&#xa0;m), and favorable soil types such as eutric vertisols with water content above 90%. Conversely, steep slopes (&gt; 25°) and high elevations (2501–3301&#xa0;m) do not support high suitability. Cross-tabulation analyses highlight the contributions of each determinant to land suitability. The study underscores the importance of using GIS in agricultural land suitability analysis, providing crucial insights for sustainable land use planning. These findings guide policymakers and stakeholders in optimizing agricultural practices, ensuring efficient and sustainable use of land resources, and promoting long-term environmental and economic sustainability in the region. The analysis serves as a foundation for informed decision-making and strategic interventions in agricultural development.</p>
