Thermal performance of a cooling tower operating with corrugated copper packing: A heat and water loss investigation
摘要
The article presents an experimental study on the thermal performance of a counterflow cooling tower using corrugated copper packings and seawater as an alternative make-up. This study seeks to determine the influence of water-to-air flow ratio and inlet hot water temperature on the thermal performance of a cooling tower (CTTP). The study shows that the cooling tower thermal performance (CTTP) decreases as the water-to-air mass flow ratio increases, and this decrease is more significant at higher input water temperatures. Also, it was found that CTTP increases when the input water temperature increases; at 45 °C, CTTP increases by approximately 30 % compared to 35 °C; its value is considerably greater than that of other examined packing materials; however, it is comparable to that of other water media. The cooling tower’s heat rejection increases with water flow rate, and higher air flow rates lead to greater water evaporation, demonstrating superior cooling performance with corrugated copper sheet packing.
