摘要

Amidst increasing global greenhouse gas regulations, the automobile industry is prioritizing lightweight materials for fuel efficiency and environmental solutions. The adoption of aluminum’s lightweight advantage in automobiles faces challenges in weld joint safety, such as the low weldability of aluminum and a decrease in joint strength due to softening. This study revealed that mechanical performance can be improved by simply depositing ribs, commonly used as reinforcing materials in the construction industry, onto T-fillet weld joints. Tensile testing showed that the average maximum tensile load of rib reinforced joints increased from 7.581 kN (normal type) to 9.344 kN (rib reinforced joint), indicating a 23.26 % improvement. The deposited ribs were found to enhance tensile performance by increasing the effective weld size and enlarging the load bearing area. Therefore, this study concludes that rib structures contribute to improving weld joint strength in aluminum T-fillet joints.
