<p>Phosphate stockpiles need to be managed right now since they represent a major environmental risk. This study explores the potential of phosphate sludge as a resource in multiple industrial sectors, given strict pollution control measures. In particular, the use of these wastes as raw materials for the gypsum and cement industries is investigated. This study aims to describe phosphate sludge from southwest Tunisia’s phosphate-rich Gafsa basin. Two types of sludge, representing the entrance and outlet sludge from the M’dhilla basin decanter, were used in the experiments. Other industrial wastes were also included in the investigation, such as wood and paper waste, to look into their synergistic effects and help with the recycling of gypsum. Among the characterisation techniques used to evaluate the properties of the materials both before and after processing were compressive strength testing, chemical analysis, and X-ray diffraction. The results show that it is possible to use phosphate sludge waste in a sustainable way, and they also highlight the necessity of applying effective waste management techniques in industrial sustainability projects.</p>
