<p>Acute and chronic heart failure are both associated with a&#xa0;high morbidity and mortality. Decompensated heart failure is the most frequent cause for hospitalization in Germany. Already in 2018 the German Cardiac Society (DGK) has published the curriculum on heart failure, which was now updated. The curriculum heart failure leads to the deeper knowledge and proficiency in the field of heart failure and to a&#xa0;respective additional certification within cardiology. The substantial expansion of the diagnostic and therapeutic options for patients with heart failure requires dedicated knowledge and skills. This development has already been incorporated into many hospitals and specialized practices, in particular by the establishment of specialized outpatient facilities and heart failure units (HFU). The DGK curriculum on heart failure defines how interested colleagues can acquire in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the field of heart failure and how they can get the appropriate certification from the DGK. The curriculum has a&#xa0;modular structure with general heart failure training in the first year and several optional subspecializations in the second year. Subspecialization includes 6&#xa0;months training in at least 2&#xa0;out of 4&#xa0;modules: advanced heart failure/ventricular assist devices/transplantation, device treatment for heart failure patients, interventional heart failure treatment and outpatient care/rehabilitation/psychopathology.</p>
