The mediating role of spiritual bypass on the relationship between spirituality and psychological well-being in young adults in Türkiye
摘要
This study examined the mediating role of spiritual bypass in the association between spiritual orientation and psychological well-being among young adults in Türkiye. The sample consisted of 330 young adults (280 females, 50 males). Data were collected using the Spiritual Orientation Scale, the Spiritual Bypass Scale–11 (Turkish version), and the Psychological Well-being Scale. Structural equation modeling was employed to test the proposed conceptual model. The results indicated that spiritual orientation was positively associated with both spiritual bypass and psychological well-being. Mediation analyses further revealed that spiritual bypass partially mediated the relationship between spiritual orientation and psychological well-being, yielding a significant indirect pathway. These findings suggest that, within the Turkish cultural context, spiritual bypass may function not solely as a form of psychological avoidance but also as a context-dependent processing style that plays a modest role in translating spiritual orientation into higher levels of psychological well-being. The study underscores the importance of culturally sensitive interpretations of spiritual coping and highlights the need to account for intermediate psychological processes in the spirituality–well-being relationship.
