Research trends and knowledge structure of youth gambling: a text mining analysis (2000–2024)
摘要
The rapid expansion of legal and online gambling since the early 2000s has significantly shifted the research landscape of youth gambling. This study examines these shifts using a text mining analysis of the relevant literature, which provides critical insights into current dynamics and identifies priorities for future investigation. Articles on youth gambling published between January 2000 and May 2024 were searched, resulting in the selection of 3,040 articles and extraction of 1,012 keywords. The most frequent keyword was “gambling disorder,” followed by “treatment,” “disorder,” “alcohol,” and “game.” The top keywords by centrality in the keyword network analysis were “treatment,” “gambling disorder,” “disorder,” “game,” and “advertising.” The five topics identified using Latent Dirichlet Allocation topic modeling were “Gambling disorder in psychopathology,” “Gambling marketing,” “Relevant factors in youth gambling,” “Measurement of problems related to gambling,” and “Types and patterns of youth gambling.” Youth gambling research has expanded beyond psychopathological perspectives to encompass advertising and gaming, reflecting the influence of a rapidly evolving digital environment. The study findings highlight the need for socio-ecological approaches and stronger conceptual and empirical foundations, underscoring the importance of regulatory policies and societal measures to prevent gambling-related problems among the youth.
