How conversational artificial intelligence alleviates individual insomnia: the roles of perceived understanding and anxiety
摘要
We draw on the theory of social response and the Computers as Social Actor model to propose a model that examines how and when interactions with conversational artificial intelligence (CAI) help alleviate individual insomnia. This model identifies perceived understanding and anxiety as mediating variables, while perceived CAI animacy—defined as the extent to which individuals perceive that CAI can form emotional bonds with others and elicit emotional responses—is identified as a moderating variable. Data collected across two separate periods support the proposed model. Results suggest that greater interactions with CAI enhance users’ sense of understanding and mitigate their anxiety, contributing to alleviating insomnia. Furthermore, these effects are particularly pronounced in CAI with higher animacy levels. This study’s findings not only advance the theoretical understanding of human–CAI interaction but also offer novel approaches and tools for addressing insomnia.
