<p>Emerging knowledge-based virtual communities have gained significant popularity among young people worldwide. Drawing on the technology acceptance model, flow theory, and social capital theory, this study explores the impact of video book review communities on the flourishing among Chinese young adults. A survey was conducted in Shanghai (<i>N</i> = 777). The results indicate that perceived enjoyment (<InlineEquation ID="IEq1"> <InlineMediaObject> <ImageObject Color="BlackWhite" FileRef="12144_2025_8203_Article_IEq1.gif" Format="GIF" Height="17" Rendition="HTML" Resolution="72" Type="Linedraw" Width="15" /> </InlineMediaObject> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(\:\beta\:\)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation> = 0.23, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001), interactivity (<InlineEquation ID="IEq2"> <InlineMediaObject> <ImageObject Color="BlackWhite" FileRef="12144_2025_8203_Article_IEq1.gif" Format="GIF" Height="17" Rendition="HTML" Resolution="72" Type="Linedraw" Width="15" /> </InlineMediaObject> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(\:\beta\:\)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation> = 0.11, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.05), and engagement (<InlineEquation ID="IEq3"> <InlineMediaObject> <ImageObject Color="BlackWhite" FileRef="12144_2025_8203_Article_IEq1.gif" Format="GIF" Height="17" Rendition="HTML" Resolution="72" Type="Linedraw" Width="15" /> </InlineMediaObject> <EquationSource Format="TEX">\(\:\beta\:\)</EquationSource> </InlineEquation> = 0.24, <i>p</i> &lt; 0.001) positively predict the flow experience. Notably, social capital fully mediates the relationship between flow experience and flourishing, with bridging social capital (effect = 0.144, 95% CIs [0.104, 0.189]) proving to be more impactful than bonding social capital (effect = 0.065, 95% CIs [0.033, 0.098]). These findings expand the technology acceptance model applications to novel technological contexts while demonstrating how virtual communities foster youth flourishing through differential social capital mechanisms. Practically, our insights offer valuable guidance for content creators, social media platforms, and policy makers aiming to foster meaningful knowledge-based connections among young people.</p>

Emerging knowledge-based virtual communities have gained significant popularity among young people worldwide. Drawing on the technology acceptance model, flow theory, and social capital theory, this study explores the impact of video book review communities on the flourishing among Chinese young adults.
