<p>With the rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) technology, the substitution of jobs by AI is having a profound impact on college students’ career decision-making. Based on the cognitive appraisal theory of stress, this study examines the double-edged sword effect of AI awareness on career decision-making difficulties (CDMD), as well as the moderating role of AI-oriented career management in this relationship. A two-wave study was conducted among 716 college students from China, and Hayes’s PROCESS macro was used to test the moderated mediation model. The findings indicated that (1) AI awareness is positively related to CDMD. (2) AI awareness has a double-edged sword effect on CDMD. Specifically, AI awareness can increase CDMD by enhancing college students’ employment anxiety (EA), while inhibiting CDMD by fostering their career exploration behaviors (CEB). (3) AI-oriented career management buffered the impact of AI awareness on EA and amplified the impact of AI awareness on CEB. This study contributes to cognitive appraisal theory of stress and highlights the important roles of AI-oriented career management.</p>
