摘要

Previous research has shown that promoting Positive Youth Development may empower adolescents and emerging adults as active agents of change in the context of climate crisis. This study assesses whether the Five Cs of Positive Youth Development influence Climate Change Attitudes (Beliefs and Intentions) and Pro-Environmental Behaviors. Associations with Satisfaction With Life are also explored. Cross-sectional data were collected from 326 Portuguese adolescents and emerging adults (16–24, 72,1% female). The results from structural equation modeling showed that Competence, Confidence and Character are associated with Climate Change Beliefs, although a negative association was evidenced in the case of Competence. Character was the only factor influencing Pro-Environmental Behaviors. No significant associations were found between Climate Change Attitudes or Pro-Environmental Behaviors and Satisfaction With Life. While longitudinal research is needed to explore causality, age, and cultural specificities, we conclude on the relevance of including Positive Youth Development dimensions to promote youth climate engagement among younger generations.
