摘要

Minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) can lead to cognitive function reduction and then traffic accidents. However, the research trends on MHE are still unclear. Thus, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of MHE is of clinical significance in uncovering global research hotpots in this field. To acquire a thorough comprehension of the research status and trends in this field, we conducted a bibliometric analysis based on the Web of Science (WoS) database. CiteSpace and VOSviewer software were employed to extract bibliometric information. Analysis of global distribution was performed utilizing the webpage mapping implement “Bioinformatics” (http://www.bioinformatics.com.cn/). Publications within this domain were retrieved from the WoS Core Collection database which is the world’s leading citation database and contains records of publications from the highest-impact journals worldwide, and the inclusion criteria were ultimately satisfied by 1011 articles by setting search string as (TS = (Minimal hepatic encephalopathy)). From 2012 to 2023, more than 50 MHE-related publications have been published each year. Based on the number of total publications (NP), top 3 publication categories are gastroenterology hepatology (NP = 476), neurosciences (NP = 153), and endocrinology metabolism (NP = 75). According to the number of total citations (NC), the most influential authors, institutions, and journals were Bajaj, Jasmohan S (NC = 3745) from the Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Commonwealth University (NC = 3655), and Hepatology (NC = 4926), respectively. The “gut-liver-brain” axis would be a research hot point in the future. This study delves into the current state of research on MHE. It reveals patterns in publications and highlights emerging trends in the literature, offering a comprehensive and impartial overview. These findings are positioned to significantly aid individuals seeking insights into this area and can serve as a valuable reference guide for researchers initiating further investigations.
