Analysis of factors affecting family resilience and exploration of an intervention model for children with cerebral palsy in Changzhou
摘要
Cerebral palsy places a heavy burden on society and families. Families whose members have cerebral palsy will recover from adversity and impaired family functioning can be restored to unimpaired functioning. The aim of our study was to identify the influencing factors that reduce the resilience of families with children who have cerebral palsy and to identify effective interventions. Questionnaires were administered to families whose members have cerebral palsy who met the inclusion criteria determined by the Family Resilience Rating Scale (FRS), the Psychological Resilience Questionnaire for Parents of Children with Special Needs (PRSN), the Simple Coping Styles Scale (SCSQ), and the Family Assessment Device-General Functioning (FAD-GF).Medical staff then conducted semistructured interviews with direct caregivers of children with cerebral palsy. There were no statistically significant differences in family resilience scores in terms of sociodemographic or disease-related factors. Family resilience was positively associated with psychological resilience, moral support, a sense of control, optimism and resilience, and positive coping. It was negatively associated with self-confidence and acceptance. Acceptance had the greatest impact on family resilience, followed by active coping. The families of children with cerebral palsy experienced a journey of familial adaptation in reaction to familial shock at the time of initial diagnosis, to stressing during the period of chronic durability, to the developing of family resilience, and to embracing the future. Effective interventions are needed to rehabilitate children with cerebral palsy while providing practical support to parents and families, encouraging positive coping styles to promote family resilience, and ultimately facilitating the children’s recovery.
